in The lingering garden ranks among the five great classical
gardens of China; all of them are national monuments or key units
of cultural relic under state protection as they are officially
called. 苏州留园是中国五大私家花园之一，为国家重点文物保护单位。 This garden holds a particularly important place among the
various gardens of Suzhou it represents a fine example of the
well--integrated art of classical architecture and landscape
designing in south China just as its name suggests the garden is
well worth lingering in. 留园在苏州著名的私家花园中地位独特，她代表了中国江南花园中古典建筑和造园艺术完美结合的典范。正像留园的名称那样，让人流连忘返。 The garden was first laid out in the Ming dynasty in the
16th century, But very little of it had remained today
because the garden has gone through major reconstruction twice in
latter centuries In1876. a high official, the Minister of
Communications of the Manchu Government acquired the garden. He not
only renovated the old garden but also greatly enlarged it with
lots of buildings added under a new name the lingering garden .The
implication of the name is that the garden had lingered a long time
through the centuries and that its owner wished it to linger on
from generation to generation 留园建于明代（16世纪），那时的园林几乎没有保留到今天。因为以后留园经历了两次较大的重建。1876年间，满清政府的一位高官（交通大臣）得到这座园林。这位高官不但修缮了园林，而且还扩建了它并在里面添加了大量的建筑物。取名留园。寓意是留园已经流荡了几百年了，主人还要留园世时代代流传下去。 The garden has an area of 8 acres and is divided into central,
eastern, western and northern sections with distinctive
